The warmth of the sun against her lightly browned skin was comforting. Since her arrival in Los Angelas hardly six months ago, Felix Arroyo had hardly gotten any chances to explore her new home so today, she had opted not to work on cars (though she wouldn't have minded the slightest bit if she was told to do so anyhow) and not to stack shelves with books. Yes, today 18 year old Felix had decided to make a day for herself and head to the beach.
For the most part, it seemed a bit illogical for her to be there. The beach meant the ocean and the ocean meant terror and bad memories brought on by her one and only visit to it eleven years before. But today the young lady was feeling brave and with her bag stuffed with provisions --a towel, sun screen, a water bottle, her outdated i-pod and her keys-- she made her way onto the soft white sands of LA's finest beach. The sand was hot between her toes as she stumbled over the small, cratered bits of sand. The beach was crowded, as it should have been, and filled with sounds for her to focus on. Already, Felix was beginning to like the place.
It wasn't long until she found an unoccupied spot on the sand near a family with a few children and an obviously very in love young couple. Settling down, she stripped herself of the tank top and pair of shorts she had been wearing and stuffed them into her bag, pulling out her towel and sunscreen in their place. Carefully, Felix fluttered the towel on the air before laying it onto the sand. She grabbed the sunscreen bottle and applied the white cream to her body before she layed out in the harmful UV rays. Once finished with her precarious rituals, Felix snagged her i-pod and tuned it to something that seemed to remind her of the beach and finally layed her dark haired head down, resting her eyes beneath the shade of her sunglasses.

Chance felt like he had never left LA even though he had been gone for almost five months. Things were still pretty much the same. The same people and the same beaches, the same clubs and the same drama. But it was good to be home and not on the road and in hotels all the time. The biggest thing he had missed was the sun and surfing. That was the first thing he was going to do now that he was back. He had promised himself and here he was, at the beach with a wet suit half way on and his surfboard under his arm. A smile played across his lips as he scanned the beach to see if there was anyone that he knew laying around. He spotted a few of his friends and waved to them but didn't go over to talk to them. He just wanted to surfe and relax a bit.
As he was making his way out towards the waves that were crashing invitingly against the shore, a beautiful dark haired girl caught his attention. His light ocean blue eyes turned to get a better look at her as he walked past her. She was young but she didn't look as young as he guessed she probably was. A smile raised one side of his mouth as he looked her over for a moment more before quickly coming up with a plan on how to talk to her. She seemed to have headphones in which presented another welcomed challenge. A smirk spread across Chance's face as he finally came up with a plan.
Stopping so he stood at the end of her towel, he stuck his tall surfboard into the soft sand at her feet so that it blocked the warm sun from touching her golden skin. Keeping his back turned to her, he kept an arm wrapped around his board while his eyes looked straight ahead though he wasn't paying any attention to what was in front of him. Instead he was listening for her voice. Waiting for her to speak, telling him that he was blocking her sun or something along those lines. He was a pro at this kind of stuff. It was only a matter of time before she would be his for as long as he wanted. He was normally the one that put an end to things before the girl did. Especially when it came to younger girls like her. This one would be easy, that was for sure. Maybe even a bit too easy, but oh well, there was no turning back now.

Hardly half way through the first song, Felix felt a slightly less warm feeling come over her body and the warm light that had been casting over her makeup-free eyelids was shielded by something other than the dark glasses that sat idly by on her face. Slowly, her dark eyes fluttered open only to see the form of some beach god standing above her, acting as if he didn't know he were blocking her view. Felix made no effort to speak to him. Instead, she pulled her things together and moved them slightly to the right, allowing the sun to once again strike her thin body.
A small smirk adorn her lips after that, yet her eyes stayed shut. She didn't have to have them open to see the confused smile of the hulky beachgoer who had tried to get her to speak to him. She could already picture it perfectly in her mind. His arched eyebrow, possibly a scratch upon the side of his blond head. It was becoming much more obvious that the boys in California were the same as the ones in Oklahoma --save for the country accents that graced each and every boy in Tulsa...and most girls. Felix herself had somehow skipped out on that one, luckily and most likely due to the slightly Mexican accent that had been known to grace the voices of her family for years.
Before two minutes had passed, Felix found herself forgetting all about the young man who had blocked her sun before. She was losing herself in the rhythmic strums of the guitar that were playing softly through her headphones, helping her slip further into her dreamy beach day. It was simply assumed that the young man had gone away and left the new young adult to add a slightly more sunkissed color to her skin. But of course, boys will be boys and it was foolish of her to assume that he would leave her alone that easily, wasn't it?

WTF. When Chance heard the girl pick up her stuff and move over so she was in the sun once more he furrowed his brows but didn't turn around and instead stared out at the ocean, not really seeing the waves or the sand as he tried to figure out what had gone wrong in his plan. Sure it wasn't one of his best plans but it wasn't terrible enough to fail so miserably either was it? He hadn't thought so and yet here he was, standing here by himself, not talking to the cute girl he had seen laying out on the beach. His mind was working again as he tried to figure out what to do next.
Finally coming up with something, he decided a more direct approach and simple approach would work best with this girl. That way she couldn't ignore him this time. Finally turning around, he left his surfboard where it was, stuck in the sand where she had been before heading over to her side. When he was standing next to her, he bent down a bit, a frienldy smile on his face as he gave her a gentle nudge to get her attention.
"Sorry to bother you but do you know what time it is?" he asked her, a sincere smile on his face as he waited for her to answer his ice breaker question. It was definitely not one of his more preferred tactics but his more preferred tactic had failed miserably so he had to try something else. He wasn't sure what it was about this girl that his normal charm didn't work but he hadn't gotten a chance to really lay on the charm just yet so maybe he still had a chance and she was just shy or something. Whatever it was, he hoped that she wasn't completely anti social or something. That would prove what terrible luck he was having today. Maybe it was a sign that he should stop hitting on girls that were younger than him. Stop taking advantage of their naive personality and weakness for sexy men like himself. Nah, that couldn't be it. It had to be something strange with her because there couldn't be anything wrong with him. He had gotten plenty of women and this one would be no different. Or so he thought.

Her songs continued to play and slowly Felix's mind melted away into a dreamy land of peace and quiet, despite the obnoxious noises from the children a few feet off. It seemed as if her day was going to continue with the normality she had originally planned for, laying on the beach as far as possible from the actual water, sipping her own water and relaxing. But of course, nothing ever went as planned, at least not here. Soon enough, Felix felt a nudge to her side causing her airy, dreamless rest to be disturbed and the pleasant feeling she had gained to melt away.
For the second time in five minutes Felix opened her eyes only to meet the beach god once again. Only this time, he was much closer to her and his charming demeanor was much more visible.
Sorry to bother you but do you know what time it is?" he asked innocently, his voice gentle and sweet...and rehearsed. Felix removed her sunglasses, letting her dark eyes meet his blue ones properly. He seemed confident enough in himself to approach her twice and if he were really that interested then at least she got an ego boost from it. For a moment the teen considered being nice, friendly and cordial to him. that was, until a fun little plot slipped into her mind. He seemed like a good old American boy which had Felix willing to bet he spoke the good old American language.
Propping herself up on her elbows Felix smiled lightly, mocking sweetness before she spoke. "En realidad, es el derecho sobre el tiempo para el gran hombre corpulento de la playa para encontrar otra chica, más fácil de molestar. Ahora, ¿te importa?" her words came out quickly and fluently, her Spanish flawless in the air of all the English chatter around her. It took a lot of concentration but Felix managed to keep her false innocent smile on as she waited to see the reaction of this man who seemed persistent to bother her on her day off of everything.

The first thing that crossed Chance's expression was a look of confusion, his eyebrows furrowed and he looked at her with a thoughtful yet unsure expression before he couldn't keep it up any longer. Finally he felt the smile he had been trying to hide slide across his face and a soft chuckle escaped his lips as he prepared to speak. Glancing out at the ocean for a moment, he finally turned his light blue gaze to look at her once more, the same smile still on his face.
"Tal vez. Sin embargo, su regreso podría haber funcionado un poco mejor si no era un niño pijo rico, que se ven obligados a aprender tres idiomas en la escuela preparatoria. Y por esas palabras duras, creo que al menos tienen derecho a saber su nombre." he replied, his Spanish just as fluent as hers was. When he was finished speaking, he raised his eyebrows, waiting for her reply and a sly yet proud smirk was spread across his face. Sure she had a few tricks but he had some better ones.
He had to admit, he was rather impressed with her way of trying to get rid of him and on any other guy it most likely would have worked. But he obviously wasn't the same as other guys. Not only was he an A list actor, he was also a born and raised LA native. He was also surprised to admit that those years of foreign language classes had actually paid off and been useful for something. Though he still wasn't sure what he was going to use advanced math skills for in his field of work but that was another story. His attention came back to her as he waited to see what she would say. Hopefully she would humor him because if she shut him down again, he was seriously considering giving up. There was no point in pushing the matter if he wasn't going to get anywhere. And so far he hadn't made any progress yet. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Or in Chance's case, you win most and lose a couple.

Felix let her smile morph into the smirk it had been desperately aching to become as she listened to his fluid words. She had to admit, she had underestimated this pretty boy and now she was most likely stuck with him. Slowly, she rolled her dark eyes at him before propping herself up properly so that she was sitting rather than laying.
"You don't give up easily, do ya burly beach man?" she asked, her voice filled with sarcasm and true Mexican accent. A small bit of laughter escaped her as she said this in English, thoughts crossing her mind of all the silly things she could have said to him that he would have understood. she wished she had known sooner that he spoke Spanish. She might have played around with it a bit. Felix sighed, shaking her head lightly, causing a few strands of her dark hair to fall loose from the messy pony tail she had thrown it into earlier.
She continued, switching back to her more comfortable, native language. "¿Y qué hace un niño rico malcriado como tú quieras con el tiempo de todos modos? Si eres tan rico entonces usted debe tener decenas relojes, si no es un teléfono con un reloj en el mismo. Y, si ese es el caso, entonces usted realmente no necesita mi nombre y yo no necesito el suyo. ¿no?"
It was true, if he was such a spoiled rich boy then he had plenty of his own watches which in effect meant he was failing miserably at trying to pick her by hinting he had no way of telling which was lying and automatically set up a ground for distrust. Oh, boys. To Felix, they were all the same which was mostly why she had never bothered trying to venture with them. Not that she had been thoroughly sought after in Oklahoma. No, Felix had almost been avoided like the plague. But here that seemed to be changing, which was flattering but still a rather repulsive concept. She knew this boy's game better than he did and if he wanted to play, she was down for that, so long as he was willing to play her game and not his. Chance couldn't help but be amused by how hard she was trying to turn him down and get him to not be interested. Was it really that bad to talk to him or even just tell him her name? Apparently so because instead of telling him her name, she went on about the fact that if he was rich he would have a ton of watches and a phone with the time on it so he wouldn't need to ask her for the time. She seemed to be thinking a lot, trying to out wit him at his own game and it wasn't going to work. Sure she might know what his angle was and shut him down the best she could but what she didn't seem to understand was that she was a girl. And she would never be able to truly understand what it was that went on in the mind of a man. She could try to figure it out all she wanted but all she could do was guess at it. He knew what he was doing. This wasn't his first rodeo.
"Holy shit! Calm down! I do have a phone but it's in my car and I hardly ever wear watches. I'm going surfing. Last time I checked, phones and water don't go very well together. Plus, where am I suppose to put a phone in this thing!?" he replied, putting his hands up as if to ward off an attack before patting his wet suit to show her that there was definitely nowhere a phone was going to be able to fit in the skin tight suit. Letting his light ocean blue gaze look back up at her, he smiled a bit before speaking once more.
"If you're not going to give me your name then I'll at least give you mine whether you want it or not. I'm Chance Caine. There. See? It's not so hard. Wanna try?" he replied, pointing to his bare chest as he introduced himself and then rested his arms on his bent knees since he was still crouched down beside her. The last part was a question and he raised his eyebrows and gave her an exaggerated, encouraging smile as if she were a little kid that was too shy to say their name.

Felix couldn't help but roll her eyes again. She may not have been a man but as far as she was concerned, she was more man than this pretty boy was. Sure he sat there, confidently trying to woo her but she knew his game and she knew it well. He was the type who always got the girl, despite his probably filthy intentions with them. He knew he was handsome and didn't care who else knew and he figured he was really smooth even though he absolutely wasn't. It was silly but the more Felix thought about it, the more amused she became with their little guessing game.
So his name was Chance, huh? Seemed like set up for a bad pick up line to her. But on the off chance that it really was his name, she didn't pry further into it. And she definitely wasn't going to elaborate on his whole wet suit thing either. You would have thought a guy who was trying so hard could have worked a sense of humor in there somewhere.
After studying him for a moment, Felix replied. "How about this, if you can guess my name then you can know it and if not then you can't. Seem fair enough?" she countered, knowing her offer wasn't much but it was probably just enough to keep him interested and her entertained. Her eyes never left his as she reached into her bag and pulled out a water bottle, unscrewing the cap with ease before taking a long drink. Felix tilted her head back as she drank, feeling the cool beverage spread through her body.
After finishing she looked back to the blond boy. "You get three guesses, rich boy."
she teased, egging him on just a bit more to keep herself entertained. [/blockquote][/blockquote] W O R D S * 301 ;; T H O U G H T S * a bit better <3;; M U S I C * everclearrr ;; T A G G E D * Chance ;; W E A R I N G * clothes ;; C R E D I T S * adele's chasing pavements ;;

He was a bit surprised when she was actually playing along. Her reply to guess her name was an impossible challenge, that much he was sure of so he decided to try and use it to his benefit. He knew he was going to get it wrong anyways, he was terrible with names. But an amusing idea popped into his head and he was going to try a different technique and see if it did anything. If not, he would just go on with his life but always remember the amusing afternoon he had with a beautiful young lady. But if it worked then he might just get to see her again, or at least learn what her name was. It was probably a better idea to start with her name before he jumped to conclusions. A smirk slid across his face as she egged him on a bit more there at the end which gave him a boost of confidence that his new plan might just work. She seemed to be enjoying their hateful yet amusing banter almost as much as he was, though she obviously wasn't going to admit it. So would she want to continue their little back and forth game or be done with him if he gave in and admitted defeat? That was the question he was hoping to get answered with his next words.
"You. Are. Beautiful. Damn. Those were terrible guesses. I guess I lose. Oh well. Guess now I'll never know." he replied, at first counting out his three guesses as he said his first three words. Looking sincerely frustrated, he rose to his feet and snap his fingers in an oh darn kind of way before turning his back on her and heading back towards his surfboard which was only a few feet away from her.
With his back to her, he busied himself with adjusting things on his surfboard and digging it out of the sand with his foot as he waited to see if she would say anything to him. This was the true test. If she left him go and didn't speak then he didn't have a chance with her and would just have to move on. But... if she spoke to him, or even better if she gave him her name then he might just still be in this whole thing. There was only one way to tell and he was rather interested to see what the next turn of events would bring.

Oh, those were quite some guesses. Well, at least the kid knew what he wanted. That was more than she could say for a great deal of the population. As he got up, Felix found herself in an internal debate. She could easily have let him walk away from her, as she had originally wanted, or she could offer him something to keep him around just a bit longer. He wanted to know her name pretty badly, for whatever reason. That wouldn't be so hard would it? After all, a name wouldn't allow him to be a stalker. Though, the more Felix thought on that one the more she figured that he would have a difficult time coming up with more than one female Felix in the Los Angelas area.
With a deep sigh and an instant knowledge that she would regret the decision, she finally released what he had been asking for. "Felix." she said, just loudly enough for Chance to hear. "My name is Felix Arroyo."
she finished, leaning back down into the original position propped up on her elbows that they had first spoken under. The sea breeze blew by as she did so, sending her dark locks over her shoulders and exposing her thin shoulders a bit more than before. She ignored it though, slipping her dark sunglasses back on her face. Well, she couldn't say much else until he acknowledged that, if he chose to, but she could get back to her music. Keeping her body propped up, Felix grabbed her red i-pod and pressed the play button, allowing the nice sounds to float through her ears as they had been doing before. A small smile graced her lips as she thought for a moment, and I could have been working on cars or shelving books today. Instead, I chose to waste my time with this... her eyes wandered back over to chance for a moment before floating back to the treacherous depths of the ocean she feared so much. As the words he had been hoping for slipped past her lips, a smirk slowly made it's way across his face. Bingo. He didn't turn around until he had wiped his smirk off and stuck his surfboard back into the sand. So now that he knew what tactic worked best on her, he might just be able to work a little charm here. When his surfboard was stuck deep enough in the sand that it wouldn't fall over, he turned on his heel and came back over to Felix, sitting down in the sand beside her towel. His eyes looked out at the ocean for a moment before he leaned towards her a bit and cleared his throat loudly to get her attention since she had once again started listening to music. His light blue eyes didn't leave the sight of the ocean though and his expression was blank, though his brows were raised a bit as he waited to have her attention once more before speaking. When he had gotten her attention again, he turned his head to look at her, a small smile on his face.
"I knew my guesses weren't even close. But I'm glad, Felix suits you." he replied, a genuine smile spreading across his face a little as he looked down at her with his blue eyes. After a moment of silence, a wicked grin started to spread across his face as he came up with quite the plan. He wasn't sure if it would work or not but he was willing to give it a shot. Turning back to look at her once more, he put a more serious expression on his face before speaking.
"See that huge pier sticking out into the ocean with the ferris wheel and roller coasters and stuff on it? Meet me there tonight at eight or you'll never see your beloved iPod again." he replied, raising his brows a bit with a hint of mysteriousness to his voice. He sat frozen for a moment, just looking at her before he reached down and snatched her iPod off of her towel before rising to his feet and grabbing a hold of his surfboard. Tucking it under his arm, he came back over to stand beside her before jerking his brows up flirtatiously as he looked down at her.
"See ya at eight." he added before taking off across the beach and heading to the parking lot where his big black Ford Raptor pick up was parked. After throwing the board in the back, he climbed in the drivers seat and started the engine before heading home. He had a lot of schemeing to do before tonight.
